Hi, I’m Jai Mitchell, a Product Designer at Josephmark, and founder of the Product Of ___ network of local design communities.

I'm motivated by a drive to build great products with great people, to solve real problems for real people, and to make the world a better place, one interaction at a time.

This site is a work in progress. Apologies for any dead ends or broken links – good luck!

I’m never sure if my near-insatiable curiosity is a blessing or a curse, but having a career that allows me to constantly feed it is a definite privilege.

The official bio that Josephmark wrote for me says:

“As a Product Designer and Strategist at Josephmark, Jai is involved in every stage of a project – from developing high-level strategies and seamless user experiences to obsessing over micro-interactions and typography.

Outside of JM, this self-proclaimed ‘specialist generalist’ is the founder and organiser of digital product design community ‘Product of BNE’, which along with its spin-off in Sydney is evolving into an international network of product nerds.”

I guess I’d also like to add to that something about being a dedicated partner to my wife Magdalene, and a devoted parent to our two amazing children (a 3 year-old & an 18 month-old, as of mid 2017).

I think it's also worth mentioning that I've been involved with Shillington College's Graphic Design program (the same course I graduated from in 2011, which really kicked off my design career) since volunteering in 2015 to assist with classes in an effort to grow as a senior designer, and improve at giving guidance to juniors.

Since early 2016 I've been an official part-time substitute teacher. I really enjoy it, and find that it has helped me grow as a designer, and reinvigorated my passion for the visual and communication design side of my career.

Finally I'd add that before focussing on design I had set of very interesting and varied career experiences in the music, construction, hospitality and advertising industries.

I like to believe that all of these life experiences allow me to approach design with a very holistic, healthy, and realistic perspective.

Really, I think I just like to tell myself that to feel better about being a little older than many of my peers in the industry, and to justify that it's taken me a while to get around to completing a few side projects I've started over the years.

Anyhow, thanks for checking out my work. I truly appreciate any and all feedback, so feel free to drop me a note, or reach out anytime – I'm always keen to meet new people for a coffee and a chat about design.
